Learning anything enhances your life; learning Spanish is likely to augment your professional life.

There are many advantages to learning Spanish.

The French language has been around for centuries, being born of Latin and influenced by few other age old Celtic languages of Roman Gaul and the Germanic language of the Roman Frankish invaders. Even though French is a few centuries old it has always managed to retain its freshness.

If you speak French you would be feeling at home in 29 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas where French is the official language. The good news doesn’t stop there; French is also being spoken in 54 other countries making the number of French speakers all over the world close to half a billion. Countries like Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg in the European Union has French as one of their official languages in addition to their native official language. In Canada French is one of the two official languages, the other one being English.

The continent of Africa has a good majority of French speaking people, thanks to the French invasion back in the 18th and 19th centuries. The same can be said about a few countries in Asia like India, Singapore, Lebanon, Laos and Cambodia. Even in the United States of America English is the most spoken language, followed by Spanish and French. Technically speaking French is becoming a very important language in the present era; it is advised to start learning French as soon as possible before it is too late to sit down and worry that you didn’t.

Learning French isn’t very difficult as many of us would imagine, French has the very same 26 letters derived from the Latin alphabet as we do have in English with five diacritics and two ligatures in addition. If you thought that pronouncing the different French words would be impossible think again, thanks to the grave and acute accents used in French words learning the pronunciation of French words will be purely fun. The French have the habit of borrowing many words from other languages and 25% of the words come from English while others come from Arabic, German, Spanish, Italian, Persian and Sanskrit to name a few.

What are the best ways to learn a new language? If you are serious about learning a foreign language, there are a few ideas you should think about to make sure you get to fluency as quickly as possible.

First, study every day, even if for only a little bit. Studying once per day a little bit for many days is many times better than studying in one large chunk of time once per week. You want to keep the material fresh in your mind and build off of what you learned the previous day. If you end up studying one per week, you will find that you will spend most of your time reviewing what you should have learned before. Short sessions each day will keep you moving forward.

Second, for any new language, vocabulary is essential. If you don’t know the words, you won’t understand what you are reading or hearing no matter how much grammar you know. Make sure that you keep a list or have some other method of keeping track of the new words you come across in order to learn them efficiently. It’s best if you have a systemized way of memorizing and reviewing them so that you don’t waste any time on learning them or end up forgetting them by not reviewing enough.

Third, do something fun in the language! Don’t just sit around reading textbooks and grammar books all the time. If you do boring things all the time, you will not be able to study as long and you will not learn as much. Instead, watch a movie, read a magazine or visit a blog written in the language you are trying to learn. I guarantee that you will learn a few new words and if nothing else, you will be exposed to the structure of the language and become more used to it thereby increasing your progress in the language. If you do these fun things in the language, you will also likely end up spending more time “studying” the language than you would have if all you were doing was grammar exercises in your textbook.

The Fastest Method
If you implement these three points, not only will you have good language learning habits but you will be well on your course to fluency and mastery. Of course, these are just introductory concepts. If you are interested in more advanced techniques to turboboost your language learning, I highly recommend checking out my website which will provide you with free articles and information on my book that will show you the fastest method to learn a language so that you will become fluent in a foreign language in a matter of months, learn thousands of words without worrying about forgetting them, master grammar and do all of this in an enjoyable, painless manner! Learn A Foreign Language

Most people have tried to learn a new language before, and know how hard it can be. I thought I should write a review for Rocket German after trying it out for myself. A lot of German language courses claim to be able to help you learn a new language quickly and easily. But with Rocket German in particular, it looks like they aren’t kidding around.

Rocket German is a lot different from the traditional methods of teaching a foreign language. I’ve spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars on other language courses. And of course, I picked up a few things here and there, but was nowhere near fluent after two months of practice. Basic greetings and common nouns just aren’t enough to actually be able to hold a conversation with a native speaker. It was also a big hassle to travel back and forth between the classroom and my home, and as a result after a couple months I lost all interest in continuing to torture myself.

I’m a pretty busy person and need to learn a new language on my own time at at my own convenience. Surely this has to be possible with the advent of the internet. Well, it turns out Rocket German is just the thing I was looking for. The course helps you learn contemporary German, and everything is taught in a way that is actually fun and enjoyable. They are able to make it fun by providing games and audio with the package.

Unsurprisingly, this method of learning is very effective. The catch is that you obviously need to practice on a daily basis to get anywhere with learning a new language. If you’re not having fun learning, it’s going to be very hard to make yourself stick to the program. Luckily, that is what Rocket German is all about — fun and efficient learning. The audio is recorded by a native German speaker, so that you will understand how to pronounce everything correctly. And if you run into any problems, there is a member’s forum online that is ready for any questions that you might have.

Best of all though is the cost. Rocket German is the cheapest top-notch language course that you will find. It is definitely worth all the information and materials that you get with the full package. They also offer a 2 month guaranteed satisfaction policy, or your money back. So you really have nothing to lose by giving it a shot!

Jane Landrum is a fluent German speaker that has written a popular Rocket German Review on her site. Learn to Speak German is a site dedicated to helping people learn German. You can learn more about Rocket German there.

Learn Rocket Chinese? What could that possibly mean?

When first reading the above words they probably do seem a strange turn of phrase, but learn Rocket Chinese is the new buzz phrase when talking about Chinese on-line language programs.

With over 30 million people throughout the world currently studying the Chinese language, I really believe that a decision to learn Rocket Chinese will give you the latest edge in learning conversational Chinese rapidly, thoroughly and most importantly, enjoyably.

I first heard about the learn Rocket Chinese program about two weeks ago, when my travel agent suggested that it would be a good idea to learn some basic Chinese before my first trip there next April. After hearing some of her tales about westerners who had visited China for the Olympics and got themselves into some rather awkward situations due to the language barrier, I thought perhaps I just might need to learn a few words!

Once I started looking for a Chinese language course, it did not take me long to find out why learn Rocket Chinese is considered one of the best on-line Chinese courses available. It uses interactive multimedia, state of the art software and fully downloadable audio programs to make the learn Rocket Chinese program as user friendly as it could possibly be.

The learn Rocket Chinese program consists of 5 major components that are making my learning Chinese journey a lot simpler than many other programs would do. Ten days into my course I am already able to speak basic conversational Chinese over a number of important areas. These include introductions and greetings, talking about myself, meeting for coffee and ordering drinks.(All very important when you are travelling.) There is so much more for me to learn of course but I aim to finish the course completely before I travel.

To give you an idea of what you would be taking on if you decided to learn Rocket Chinese here is a summary of what the 5 components of the course cover:

1. Component one of the learn Rocket Chinese program has 31 lessons (over 14 hours) of interactive audio so that you learn to speak confidently, naturally and fluently.

2. Component two provides the grammar and culture section of the learn Rocket Chinese language course with 31 grammar lessons, cultural notes along with a complete section of explanations and instructions on written Chinese.

3. Component three helps you remember heaps of words using the interactive learn Rocket French “Megavocab”word learning game. (Very interactive and fun)

4. Component four of the learn Rocket Chinese course develops important listening and understanding skills using the Mega-audio software learning game.( I frequently fall in fits of laughter when I hear myself, but believe me I AM getting there!)

5. Lastly, component five provides support and help every step of the way. Course members have access to the learn Rocket Chinese members forum and a team of online Chinese teachers on call to answer queries.(I’ve used this resource and find it very helpful.)

By Natalie Stephan

When visiting the Great Wall of China, clothing is an important consideration. The Great Wall is an amazing achievement, one of the most impressive in the history of humanity. For that reason, those individuals who visit the Great Wall will likely want to spend a great deal of time walking and enjoying the extensive foot paths. To do so, the proper clothing and footwear are absolutely necessary or the experience could be marred by an uncomfortable day in possibly harsh weather conditions.

Clothing for the Great Wall of China

Much of the Great Wall, especially those sections that are most magnificent and well built are built among the mountain passes. These were military structures and for that reason, were built out of necessity not comfort. For that reason, you should wear the appropriate clothing. Assuming you visit the Great Wall during the summer, you should bring light clothing, suitable for hiking and walking in the mountains. Heavier clothing will only make your hike more difficult.

Also, your clothing should be suitably waterproof and wind-resistant as weather conditions in the mountains can be at times highly unpredictable and harsh. You will want clothing that breathes easily, but is not too thin, so that you do not sweat profusely and can remain comfortable while walking.

Footwear for the Great Wall of China

Every route of the Great Wall is slightly different and requires a different approach to foot protection. Primarily, it’s important to note that you should not wear new shoes into the mountainous routes as your feet will likely swell because of the altitude. If you need new hiking shoes, wear them a few times before visiting the Great Wall to break them in. You should always wear some form of hiking boot or waterproof shoes to ensure proper ankle support and traction while walking the sometimes steep paths on the Wall. Be prepared for extensive walking.

Because of the risk of blisters, you should wear thick socks. It is true that cotton socks are at first more comfortable and work better to keep your feet dry by absorbing sweat, but their lack of support will cause you pain in the long run.

Preparation is Key

When preparing to visit any outdoor location in which you might be forced to walk great distances or spend a good deal of time climbing, you should be prepared for the possible outcomes. Carry with you a small bag with extra clothing in case of severe weather and whatever you might need if your feet become blistered. You clothing might seem like a small matter amongst the enormity of visiting the Great Wall, but without the right preparation, you will find it hard to properly enjoy your trip.

Piedmont is the region of Italy that my family and I live in. We believe it to be the most beautiful region of Italy and one of the most beautiful and magical places on earth.

Perhaps fortunately it remains a region that is little discovered by tourists – both foreign and Italian. Here is a region where you will have the little square and alleyways of medieval hill towns all to your self, explore fabulous markets with only the locals for company and explore places that have remained relatively unchanged for centuries. Saluzzo and Montiglio are just two of the gems of this region awaiting discovery.

Many of my friends and family in the USA and UK ask me to describe this special corner of Italy to them and I do my best. However help is at hand – a beautiful book was published a few years ago that literally transports you to this part of Italy. It is a book that through words and photos helps you discover this region that I love so much.

Autumn in Piemonte: Food and Travels in Italy’s Northwest

An absolutely beautiful book, the author is both poet and cook, brilliantly evoking atmosphere and sharing Piedmont’s great recipes and food. The photos are exceptional and together with the passionate writing of the author they will have you longing to follow in her footsteps. I particularly loved the chapters on le Langhe and the one on the Gourmet University which must surely be unique. My favourite of this selection of books on Piedmont.
